Job Description
The System Administrator will manage and support our hosting infrastructure with a primary focus on Linux-based servers along with a smaller set of Windows hosting environments, ensuring high availability, performance, and security for all customer services. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in web hosting environments, excellent problem-solving skills, and a passion for delivering outstanding technical support. Based in Waterford or Galway.
Key responsibilities
- Manage, maintain, and optimize cPanel/WHM servers for shared and VPS hosting environments.
- Deploy, configure, and troubleshoot CentOS/AlmaLinux/RHEL servers and related hosting software.
- Monitor server health, performance, and resource usage; respond to alerts proactively.
- Diagnose and resolve issues related to Apache/Nginx, PHP, MySQL/MariaDB, email services, DNS, and firewall configurations.
- Perform cPanel migrations, backups, restorations, and account-level troubleshooting.
- Implement and maintain security best practices and hardening standards.
- Basic troubleshooting for Windows-based servers & services.
- Manage virtualisation environments (KVM or similar).
- Perform routine updates, patches, and server maintenance tasks.
- Troubleshoot basic network issues firewalls, DNS, and connectivity.
- Document procedures, system configurations, and internal processes.
- Collaborate with support and remote teams to resolve escalated technical issues.
- Participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours support and emergency coverage.
- Build and use automation technologies to manage server fleet.
Required skills & Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience managing Linux servers in a hosting or production environment.
- Strong knowledge of DNS, Apache/Nginx, MySQL/MariaDB, and mail servers
- Proficiency with command-line tools, shell scripting, and server administration.
- Experience with firewalls.
- Familiarity with virtualization technologies (KVM or similar).
- Familiarity with basic PHP.
- Understanding of TCP/IP networking concepts and troubleshooting methods.
- Ability to diagnose performance issues and security incidents.
- Strong documentation, communication, and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with cPanel, CloudLinux, LiteSpeed, Acronis, Imunify360, or other hosting-centric tools.
- Knowledge of automation tools (Rundeck, Ansible, Bash scripting, Python).
- Windows Server Administration (basic to intermediate).
- IIS administration (basic to intermediate).
- MS SQL Server administration (basic to intermediate).
- Familiarity with Jira/Confluence
- Familiarity with Git & Gitlab
Working Hours:
The normal hours of the business are 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday to Friday inclusive.
